Description
Eldritch Horror is a grand, cooperative board game where investigators globetrot across the 1920s world, desperately trying to prevent an Ancient One from awakening and devouring reality. Players embody unique investigators, each with their own skills and backstory, venturing to exotic locations to solve mysteries, battle horrific monsters, and close interdimensional gates that spew forth unspeakable horrors. The game is driven by narrative encounter cards that present difficult choices and thematic dilemmas at each location, while an ever-present “Doom Track” relentlessly ticks towards the Ancient One’s awakening. Success hinges on teamwork, resource management, and enduring sanity-shattering challenges to complete three specific mysteries before humanity succumbs to cosmic madness.
The Marco thinks:
Say what you will about Lovecraftian adventures, but it’s genuinely hard not to get swept up in the thematics of this game. Yes, it can be a bit clunky in spots (players repetitively have to handle replenishing monsters, items, and locations), but overall I consider it to be one of the top notch games of its genre.
