Description

Durian is a compact, push-your-luck, and bluffing game from Oink Games where players act as clerks in a bustling jungle fruit shop. The unique twist is that each player has an “inventory card” in front of them that they cannot see, but all other players can. Players take turns either drawing more fruit orders (risking overselling) or ringing a bell to call the angry gorilla manager. If the manager is called and there are indeed too many orders for the available fruit, the player who called the manager is safe, and the player(s) responsible for the excess get “angry manager” tokens. However, if the manager is called and there aren’t too many orders, the player who rang the bell gets penalized. The game is a tense balance of trying to deduce the hidden inventory of others, bluffing about your own perceived stock, and knowing when to push your luck versus when to ring the bell and potentially expose an over-order (or incorrectly accuse one), all while mischievous gorilla siblings add chaotic twists to the fruit orders. The game ends when a player accumulates too much anger from the manager, making it a quick, high-tension experience.

The Marco thinks:

I actually discovered this game right here in Gothenburg! It’s fun and interactive, and what’s great is that you can play it in either a relaxed mode or a more “nerdy” mode. In the latter, bluffing is crucial, but deduction also plays a significant role.

The Lidia thinks:

It’s not my all-time favorite, but I like using it as an icebreaker—it gets people talking and having fun right away.
