Description

Dead of Winter is a highly thematic, semi-cooperative survival game set in a bleak, zombie-infested post-apocalyptic world. Players manage a small colony of survivors, working together to achieve a common main objective (like finding a cure or gathering supplies) while simultaneously pursuing individual, secret objectives that might involve personal gain, resource hoarding, or even outright betrayal if a traitor is present. Each round, players explore locations, scrounge for desperately needed resources, and face difficult moral dilemmas triggered by the unique “Crossroads Cards” that force tough choices, all while battling relentless zombies, managing dwindling supplies, and grappling with the constant threat of starvation, frostbite, or the breakdown of group morale.

The Marco thinks:

If you’re a fan of zombie apocalypse and survival themes, this game is for you! You’ll explore locations, gather survivors, and make crucial resource and decision-sharing choices with your group. The gameplay might seem tough at first, but it’s well-balanced by the ability to transfer actions among your survivors, letting you use the same survivor multiple times in a turn. While it technically includes a saboteur role, I’ve found this game a lot smoother in its fully cooperative variant. I wouldn’t call it my top pick, but overall it’s a solid game with good replayability.

The Lidia thinks:

I love it! This is my favorite complex strategy game. I really enjoy the fight for survival. It is incredibly high-pressure, and at times I feel like I am right there, gathering resources with my own hands, desperately trying not to starve. Sometimes, due to the zombie pressure, I also slap The Marco.
