Description

Boss Monster is a fast-paced card game where players take on the role of an old-school video game villain, competing to build the deadliest side-scrolling dungeon. Inspired by classic 8-bit RPGs, players strategically lay down “Room” cards, each boasting unique traps, monsters, treasure values, and damage, to lure unsuspecting “Hero” adventurers into their lair. The goal is to accumulate ten “Souls” by destroying these hapless heroes, but a crucial balance must be struck: make your dungeon too appealing, and powerful heroes might overwhelm your defenses, inflicting “Wounds” on your Boss, with five wounds leading to defeat. Through simultaneous room building, the strategic use of “Spell” cards to hinder opponents or boost your own dungeon, and a constant tactical bidding war for heroes based on their desired treasure types, players engage in a cutthroat race to become the ultimate dungeon overlord.

The Marco thinks:

The concept of playing as the villain is original, It’s satisfying being the bad guy once in a while! It flows nicely, offers fair interactivity, but primarily focuses on building your own strategy rather than obstructing others. It can be highly strategic when played in 2, and it gets more casual with more people.

The Lidia thinks:

It took me a couple of games to really get the hang of it, but this is a really nice game. The cards repeat, which is great because, after a while, you won’t even need to read them. It’s also quick to play, so you can get in a lot of games before you even think about getting tired!
