Description

Barrage is a highly strategic and intensely competitive eurogame for 1-4 players focused on industrial development and resource management in a dystopian 1920s setting where energy is scarce. Players represent competing corporations building an intricate network of dams, conduits, and powerhouses across a modular board to harness the kinetic energy of water, which flows from upstream to downstream. The core of the game revolves around meticulous action-selection using a unique “construction wheel” that locks up resources for future turns, demanding forward planning and efficient use of engineers and machinery to divert water, generate electricity, and fulfill lucrative contracts, all while cleverly blocking opponents’ water flow and maximizing their own energy production to score the most victory points.

The Marco thinks:

At the time, I couldn’t stop playing this. How is it even possible to make such a fantastic game about building dams?! You’re highly rewarded for strategic thinking in this game, but you need to pay close attention to what others are planning to effectively execute your own goals. I appreciate the fact that, even if your main strategy gets compromised, you can often find other excellent ways to succeed. Fair warning: it’s definitely super confusing at the beginning due to the number of paths and intersections. Plus, your initial strategy matters a lot, so be prepared to take a good long time planning your very first moves.
