Description

Hive is a highly portable and strategic abstract board game for two players, often compared to chess but with no board, allowing play on any flat surface. The game features twenty-two hexagonal tiles, each representing a different type of insect with a unique way of moving (e.g., the Queen Bee moves one space, the Grasshopper jumps over pieces, the Beetle crawls on top), and the objective is to completely surround the opponent’s Queen Bee. Players take turns placing tiles directly adjacent to existing ones or moving already-placed tiles, creating an ever-expanding “hive” as they simultaneously try to encircle their opponent’s Queen while keeping their own protected. Its depth comes from the intricate interactions between the insect abilities, the dynamic nature of the playing area, and the constant tactical maneuvering required to trap the opponent’s Queen.

I stumbled upon this game by chance. It’s simple to learn, yet really deep and strategic. If you are a chess lover, you must try it.
